US Forest Service Campsites GPX

THIS IS A CUT AND PASTE FROM MY ADVRIDER POST. GPX LINKS ARE CURRENTLY NOT RESPONDING ON THE FORUMS. THIS SHOULD DO THE TRICK. DOWNLOAD AT THE BOTTOM, OR BY CLICKING THE PICTURE.

I've seen a few people asking for apps and/or ways to find campsites while on the road. If you're like me, you don't want to download any more apps and you'd prefer to simplify your navigation. I created a GPX file that can be uploaded into your navigation app or GPS unit of choice. I personally use GAIA GPS and I like to upload different data layers with the ability to turn them on/off whenever necessary. The file I've provided should be a good starting point for public paid and unpaid campsites within USFS boundaries of the contiguous 48 and Alaska in the US only.

I downloaded the file: FSTopo_RecFacilities_PT.shp from the USFS website. The description of this file states:
FSTopo_RecFacilities_PT portrays Recreational locations, such as Campgrounds, Picnic Areas, Trailheads. The layer also contains Forest Service Offices and Facilities...
I uploaded the file into QGIS and extracted the campsite layers. There was no specific classification, but I assume the two layers that were labeled to be campsites are "primitive" and "dispersed." The points will not differentiate between the two when you upload them into your GPS, so take that into consideration.

Attached is the file I've created from that data. This is not my original work, so I can't take any responsibility for inaccuracies, but it may be suitable and good enough data for you to use for any upcoming trips you may have. Hope this helps.
